IYT yacht master coastal certification is of vital importance because it is a globally recognized measure of competency for takig command of power and sail vessels. This certification not only makes yachting a pleasure, but also a safer pursuit for all those who wish to participate. The course provides the highest standard of maritime education for the proffesional and recreational yachtsman and woman and provides a vastly increased level of confiedence in their ability to handle a yacht following the intensive level of on the water training. Upon completion of this certificate, candidates are required to log a total of 3000 nautical miles and 50 days at sea, including 30 hours on watch at night underway, before advancing to the International Master of yacht Offshore Certificate.

Allow successful candidate to be responsible for command of a vessel up to maximum length of 80 ft / 24 m (either auxiliary powered sailing vessels or power vessels - per certificate endorsement) and its crew, In coastal waters up to a distance of 50 miles offshore, In moderate winds and sea condition day or night.

Prerequisits Candidates should have logged 25 days and 800 nautical miles including 2 days as watch leader/captain and 12 hours underway on watch at night.

Competency requirments The Candidate must be able:
To demonstrate a thorough and detailed knowledge of the Coastal theory syllabus as outlined by IYT.And To demonstrate the ability to perform the required practical skills safely and confidently whilst in command of a vessel and crew within the geographical range for the Master of Yacht Coastal Certificates in all weather conditions.

Theory and practical components This may take the form of both written and oral assessments.
The candidate is required to demonstrate a sound working knowledge and understanding of the following:
Pilotage and passage planning
Navigation and chartwork
Tides and currents
Meteorology and weather
Seamanship
Collision regulations
Electronic navigation aids
Radio
Anchors and anchoring
Safety and survival at sea

The candidate is required to demonstrate successfully
the skills, detailed working knowledge and under-
standing of the following:
Command, crew functions and crew briefing
Check lists and preparation for sea
Navigation and pilotage
Electronic navigation aids
Weather and tide information
Anchors and anchoring
Collision regulations
Distress and emergency
Vessel handling
