The IYT Yacht Master Offshore Certificate is a commercial 200 ton Masters Certificate of Competency for operating yachts up to 150 nautical miles offshore. The program is an extensive theory and practical based course designed to provide the highest standards of maritime education for both the proffesional and recreational yachtsman and woman. It is an intensive course designed for experienced crew with sufficient on the water experience.

Allow successful candidate to be responsible for command of a vessel up to 200 GT
(either auxiliary powered sailing vessels or power vessels - per certificate endorsement) and its crew, in coastal Waters worldwide up to a distance of 150 miles offshore, In all likely winds and sea condition day or night

Prerequisits candidates must have logged 50 days and 3000 nautical miles on a yacht while cruising at sea. This mileage must be logged on genuine cruises or passges and not only short day trips. At least 2000 miles must have been completed on coastal voyages and not ocean crossings. The mileage must include at least five varied passages with ruhmb lines of over 60 miles, on two of which the candidate must have been undertaking the duties of captain or watchleader. The candidate must have considerable time of actual vessel handling.Must have logged 30 hours underway on watch at night, for at least 6 hours of this night time experience, the candidate must have been acting as the vessel's Captain/ Watchleader.

Competency requirments The Candidate must be able:
To demonstrate a thorough and detailed knowledge of the Offshore theory syllabus as outlined by IYT.
And To demonstrate the ability to perform the required practical skills
safely and confidently whilst in command of a vessel and crew within the geographical range for the Master of Yacht Offshore Certificates in all weather conditions.

Theory and practical components This may take the form of both written and oral assessments.
The candidate is required to demonstrate successfully a thourogh, complete and detailed knowledge and understanding of the following:
Pilotage and passage planning
Navigation and chartwork
electronic navigation aids
Radio
Tides and currents
Meteorology and weather
Seamanship
Collision regulations
Anchors and anchoring
Safety and survival at sea

The candidate is required to demonstrate successfully the skills, detailed working knowledge and understanding of the following:
Command, crew functions and crew briefing
General ability as Captain
Vessel pre sailing checks
Safety equipment
House keeping
Navigation and pilotage
Electronic navigation aids
Weather and tide information
Collision regulations
Seamanship
Distress and emergency
Vessel handling
