  International Bareboat Skipper
   
 

This is a certificate of excellence for those candidates who wish to take command of their own yachts confidently and safely or for those who wish to safely charter a small yacht for their family vacation. IYT may accept prior learning from other recognized yachting establishments for those who wish to apply for recognition towards the International Bareboat / Skipper Certificate examination.

Allow successful candidate to be responsible for command of a vessel up to maximum length of 50 ft / 15 m (either auxiliary powered sailing vessels or power vessels-per certificate endorsement) and its crew, In coastal waters up to a distance of 20 miles offshore, In mainly light to moderate winds and sea condition During Daylight hours.

Prerequisits Candidates are required to:
have logged a total of 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea and should have
completed the IYT International Watchkeeper/Basic Flotilla Skipper Certificate OR Show evidence of successful completion of prior similar training courses provided by an accepted and accredited body.

Competency requirments The candidate must be able:
To demonstrate good working knowledge of the theory component To demonstrate the ability to perform the required practical skills safely and correctly whilst in command of a vessel and crew in light to moderate winds and sea conditions during daylight hours

Theory and practical components This may take the form of both written and oral assessments.
The candidate is required to demonstrate a basic outline knowledge and understanding of the following:
Housekeeping Responsibilities of taking over a vessel/check out Pilotage and passage planning
Navigation and chartwork
Tides and currents
Meteorology and weather
Seamanship and nautical knowledge
Collision regulations
Anchors and anchoring
Safety and survival at sea

The candidate is required to demonstrate successfully
the skills, detailed working knowledge and under-
standing of the following:
Command, crew functions and crew briefing
Check lists and preparation for sea
Navigation and pilotage
Electronic navigation aids
Weather and tide information
Anchors and anchoring
Collision regulations
Distress and emergency
Vessel handling
